Services to push you further

Faster and faster connections are becoming available locally. Time Warner's RoadRunner service, for example, provides internet access at megabit speeds. ADSL technologies and fiber to the door are bringing new opportunities.

MaineStreet no longer provides basic access services to new accounts. Those access services are best provided by local utility companies, the telco, or the cable operator. MaineStreet provides advanced services they for one reason or another choose not to provide.

Dynamic DNS

You may find that your address is not constant. MaineStreet can provide you with Dynamic DNS services, so that no matter what address your provider assigns your machine, it will always resolve correctly to your machine. This is important if it is a gateway box or you have staff needing to access it.

Dynamic DNS services are included with our regular DNS service. You will need to use PGP to generate your update requests.

UUCP or SMTP mail

You need a secure and reliable mail system. Maybe they need to shut down for six or eight hours to upgrade. What happened to your mail?

Gateway Box

For starters, MaineStreet's gateway box provides everyone on your local LAN the ability to surf over a single high-speed connection. We can also configure it to let Macs talk to PC's, to send and receive mail, and to connect to a remote office with encrypted IP.

Going beyond that, MaineStreet's gateway box gives you the ability to share information on your LAN with your business partners anywhere in the world.

Wingate is NOT enough!

Online Policies

Worried about security? Face it: your biggest security risk is hitting reply when you meant forward and your next risk is the network being down when you need it. And yes, sooner or later someone will try the locks. While all those risks are probable, even certain, there is roughly an order of magnitude separation between them. It's ten time more likely your security will be compromised by being down than by a hacker. It's ten times more likely still that someone will reply inappropriately to email. (Or not at all as some car manufacturers found out the hard way.)

Internet Marketing

Does a spinning icon make sense for your site? What does it take to be successful online? Hard work and perseverance helps. Doing the right thing, using mailing lists, building content, and being ready to deal with the customer help too.
