WS_FTP is a program that will allow you to easily exchange files between your computer and a remote computer or server. The first thing that you see when you start WS_FTP is the profile window.
![]()
You need to specify a profile which tells the program how to access the
remote system. In the 'Profile Name' box, enter
a name for the connection you intend to make, such as 'MaineStreet'. Click on Save when you have entered all the correct information.
Click on OK in the Session Profile to open the connection you have just set up. You will see a window divided into two sub-windows.
![]() The left window, labeled 'Local System', shows your current directory and files. The right window, labeled 'Remote System', shows the remote system's current directory and files.
Directly under those labels are the paths to the current directories. To change directories, use the upper part of the window.
![]() Click '..' to move backward through the path, and click the name of a displayed directory to go into that directory. The files for the current directory will be displayed in the lower window. You can also click ChgDir and enter a path statement to that directory. For example, if you wanted to change to the directory TEMP in your TRUMPET directory, you would type '\TRUMPET\TEMP' in the box.
![]() To create a directory, click MkDir and type in the name of the directory that you want to create. To delete a certain directory, click on it to highlight it and click Rmdir. WS_FTP will ask you to confirm the delete.
Select a file or files(you can select multiple files by holding down the CONTROL key while clicking on each additional file) and hit the corresponding arrow keys( -> or <- ) depending on the direction you want to send a copy of the files you selected. You should see a copy of the file(s) in the other window. Note that the copy will appear in the other window after it has been completely downloaded. The download time varies with the size of the file. Closing the Connection To close the connection to the remote system, click Close in the lower left-hand corner.
The CLOSE button will be replaced with a CONNECT button after the connection has closed. To reconnect, click Connect. Exiting To exit WS_FTP, click Exit in the lower right-hand corner.
