Using Eudora
Eudora is a very stable, simple to use e-mail shareware program. You can create mail off-line and then login to the Internet and send it, only spending a few moments actually on-line. Creating a Message Off Line Eudora allows you to open and use the majority of its features without actually being on line. Here's how to create and edit messages before logging on to the Internet. Turn on your computer, your modem (if external), and and your printer. Go into Windows. Open up the Internet Program Group in Program Manager and double click on the Eudora icon. The opening screen will look like this: (Your screen may look a little different; this image was taken from Windows 95).
![]() Click on the word Message on the menu bar and then click once on the New Message menu option. Now the screen will look like this:
![]() You can move between lines in the Eudora screen by pressing the [Tab] key or by moving the mouse cursor to the line and clicking the mouse's left button. Type your correspondent's e-mail address at the "To:" line. Multiple addresses can go on this line if they are seperated by a comma and a space, for example: (To: admin@maine.com, cfo@maine.com). The "From:" line is already filled in by the program. It uses the information entered in the configuration screen when it was originally set up. Type in a brief description of the message in the "Subject:" line. Two to five words is appropriate. The "Cc:" line can send a copy of the message to a second person. Type that address in here. Multiple addresses may be also placed here using a comma and space. The "Bcc:" sends a copy of the message to a third person without the addresses on the "To:" and "Cc:" lines being aware that the copy has been sent. "Bcc:" stands for Blind Copy. To attach a file or document to go with the message, click on Message on the menu bar and click once on the option to Attach Document. This opens a window similar to an "Open File" dialog box. Choose the file that you wish to send with the e-mail and click on OK. This puts the path and the name of the file on the "Attachment:" line. A copy of that file will be sent when the message is transmitted. The next step is to type the body of your message below the line in the text section of the new message screen. After completing your message minimize Eudora or use the [Alt]-[Tab] feature to get back to the Internet Program Group. Remember, you've written the message off-line and need to go on-line to send it.
Sending the Mail
Follow the steps in: Logging on to the Internet using Trumpet Winsock. Once connected to the Internet reopen Eudora by using the [Alt]-[Tab] feature and send the message by clicking on the Send button in the upper right hand corner of the New Message window. You can also send the message by clicking once on the word File and then selecting the option to Send Queued Messages if the message is queued.
When you're through sending you can close Eudora. If you don't want to do
anything else on the Internet you can log off. Follow the steps in:
Logging off the Internet.
Go on to Checking your mail.
